Classes for Adults

CLASSES FOR ADULTS – FROM BEGINNERS TO PROFESSIONALS

Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Adult Program is one of the largest offerings of its kind in New England. It provides ballet opportunities for beginners through professionals to customize their personal program of ballet classes, offered daily on a drop-in basis.

ADULT INTRODUCTORY COURSES

These 10-week pre registered courses are for beginners ages 18 and up (click here for our Intro to Ballet for Teens). The courses provide students with the opportunity to explore ballet training while learning the fundamental vocabulary of the genre.  Students should register for the entire 10-week session (class size limited), which builds sequential learning from week to week. Many students take one or more sessions of each beginner level and move up at their own pace and comfort.

SUMMER INTRODUCTION TO BALLET SCHEDULE

Due to summer travel schedules, we are pleased to offer 5-week sessions (class meet twice a week) in each level. 10-week sessions will resume in the fall.  Click here to download a flyer.

OTHER DETAILS

Dress Code

The only traditional ballet attire required of our adult students are ballet slippers. Otherwise students may wear what is easy to move in and makes them feel most at ease: traditional leotards and tights or typical work out clothing such as leggings and tank tops. Whatever you wear we do ask that it be form-fitted, stretchy and allow for freedom of movement while allowing the teacher to see your silhouette. Longer hair should be pulled back away from the face.

Location

All classes are held at Ballet Theatre’s studios in the Old Cambridge Baptist Church, 400 Harvard St., Cambridge. Click here for directions.

Studio Closings

The studios are closed to all classes on the following public holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

In inclement weather, JMBT does its best to offer regularly scheduled classes unless a State of Emergency is declared.  In that instance, information will be updated on the website and emailed to students who have signed up for announcements.

For additional information, please call 617-354-7467 or submit a question here.
