TEEN INTRODUCTION TO BALLET COURSES
Whether they are curious about the dance genre, always wanted to do a pirouette or have been advised to take ballet by their coach, these courses will guide students through the basic concepts of ballet technique with a mix of barre and center work. Designed for teens with no previous experience, classes highlight musical interpretation and expressiveness, unity of line, body connections, spatial awareness, alignment, strength, flexibility and control all in a structured environment with our most experienced faculty.
Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre offers three levels of Teen Ballet for students ages 10-19. Each course is 10-weeks long and each class builds on the previous class, so attendance at all 10 classes is highly encouraged.
For teenagers with significant previous ballet experience looking for classes, please visit our School page to learn about our Young Dancers Program.

The only traditional ballet attire required of our adult students are ballet slippers. Otherwise students may wear what is easy to move in and makes them feel most at ease: traditional leotards and tights or typical work out clothing such as leggings and tank tops. Whatever you wear we do ask that it be form-fitted, stretchy and allow for freedom of movement while allowing the teacher to see your silhouette. Longer hair should be pulled back away from the face.
All classes are held at Ballet Theatre’s studios in the Old Cambridge Baptist Church, 400 Harvard St., Cambridge. Click here for directions.
The studios are closed to all classes on the following public holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
In inclement weather, JMBT does its best to offer regularly scheduled classes unless a State of Emergency is declared. In that instance, information will be updated on the website and emailed to students who have signed up for announcements.
