Volunteer

Volunteers play a key role at José Mateo Ballet Theatre, providing our organization with invaluable services.

We offer a wide variety of opportunities for those interested in volunteering, and actively seek a volunteer base with a full range of skills, interests, and schedules. Our volunteer coordinator will work with you to identify volunteer activities that work best for you, and at the same time, contribute significantly to our organization.

We are currently looking for work study students to sign in morning and evening Open Classes during the summer months. Work study hours are 9am-12pm or 5pm-8pm and shifts are available Monday-Friday. Work Studies are eligible to earn free Open Classes at our studios.

Production

Our productions benefit from volunteers involved in a number of areas. Help is needed in carpentry, scene painting, costuming, and props. Backstage volunteers assist with makeup hairstyling, costuming, and chaperoning young dancers. All public performances require ushers to seat patrons, take tickets, and hand out programs. Volunteers are also needed to serve as bartenders and parking attendants at performances taking place at the Sanctuary Theatre. Volunteers may be asked to assist with ticket sales in the box office and other miscellaneous front-of-house responsibilities.

Office Clerical

We welcome clerical assistance of every type. Volunteers are needed to help with phones, mailings, word processing, and filing.

Marketing

Marketing involves an ongoing effort to bring exposure to company performances and the school. In the past volunteers have formed marketing teams for specific productions, executing formal plans aimed at increasing ticket sales. Volunteers are needed for selling ad space in programs, poster and flier distribution, and other activities. In addition, volunteers play a key part in expanding our marketing network by providing contacts for sponsorships, group sales, and more.

Ballet Shop

The Ballet Shop is our own traveling gift and concessions shop that is administered exclusively by volunteers. People are needed to participate in retail planning, buying, and selling.

Special Events

Ballet Theatre hosts an array of special events throughout the year including opening night celebrations and fund-raisers. Among the many volunteer opportunities are event sponsorship, event planning, and mailing coordination.

Young Dancers Program

Volunteers are needed to assist with fund-raisers, parent observation weeks, and year-end demonstrations associated with our Young Dancers Program.

Professional Skills

Ballet Theatre welcomes the assistance of professionals who can contribute time and services in such areas as photography, videotaping, graphic design, desktop publishing, technical writing and information technology.
