Directed by Cuban-born founder José Mateo and incorporated as a non-profit in 1986, JMBT has developed from a single studio dance school into the largest minority-led arts organization in Greater Boston.
We are seeking various positions for the Young Dancers Program 2024-25 school year!

Creative Dance Teacher
DESCRIPTION
José Mateo Ballet Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic instructor for its Creative Dance and Pre-Ballet classes of the Young Dancers Program (children ages 3-6) – in both studio locations in Cambridge and Dorchester. Applicants must have experience in ballet and teaching dance to young children. This position is a part-time role for commitment for the entire 2024-25 school year, from September through June.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in developing curriculum for the assigned ballet classes
- Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students
- Working closely with other teachers who teach the same level
- Manage a classroom of young children ages 3-6
- Ensure consistency in each student’s learning and maintain JMBT’s organizational philosophy
- Attend mandatory faculty meetings throughout the year (TBC)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ballet experience and minimum one year of teaching experience
- Experience working with young children in an educational or recreational setting
- Excellent communication skills between children, families, colleagues, and administration
- A positive attitude and passion for instilling a love of dance in each child
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet each child’s needs
- Reliability and punctuality for all assigned classes with additional tasks as needed
- Embody JMBT’s mission of making ballet accessible to all

Elementary Ballet Teacher

Pianist for Classical Ballet Class
DESCRIPTION
José Mateo Ballet Theatre seeks experienced pianists for classical ballet classes in the Young Dancers Program and Adult Open Class Program at our Cambridge studio location. Pianists will have the opportunity to work intensely with a small community of dedicated teachers and students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have significant experience playing for ballet classes with regular availability to play for Morning, Afternoon, and/or Evening classes.
