Since 1986, José Mateo Ballet Theatre has helped thousands of hard-working young dancers quickly make critical breakthroughs in their technical and artistic development during the Summer Intensive Program.
Students will discover untapped potential and reach unexpected levels of achievement in a welcoming environment with a staff of dedicated, expert instructors. The program is for students looking for a rigorous ballet training program that will ensure surprising growth in the span of five weeks.

The curriculum includes: daily technical training in ballet, including pointe or pre-pointe work, variations, and partnering; workshops in character, modern, and African dance; conditioning classes; discussion hours; field trips; and daily rehearsals of works choreographed by José Mateo in preparation for performances in two Greater Boston venues (The Sanctuary Theatre in Cambridge and Windhover Center for the Performing Arts in Rockport).
Drawing primarily from the reputable faculty of José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s year-round school, the stellar group of instructors brings a continuity to training that accounts for the considerable progress students will make. Under the supervision of Founder/Director José Mateo, the roster includes Patricia Chiang, Magdalena Gyftopoulos, Bettina Indaco, and additional guest teachers.

José Mateo Ballet Theatre works with out-of-town dancers who have been accepted into the program to find suitable housing with host families in the area who have an affiliation with the organization.

1. | Be enrolled in the full program and remain committed to attending the full program July 3-August 4, 2023. |
2. | Comply with all rules and regulations of José Mateo Ballet Theatre including, but not limited to, dress code, punctuality, general conduct, and class protocols. |
3. | Attend and be on time to all scheduled classes. Scholarship students may not be late to class more than 2 times or have more than 2 absences during the course of the program. Absences and lateness must be communicated to the office by a parent/guardian in advance of the start of class. |
4. | Participate in all scheduled classes and activities and other organizational programs. |
5. | Seek and receive permission from artistic staff before enrolling in additional dance classes or accepting a performance engagement elsewhere. |
Financial Aid Application Requirements
No financial aid application is necessary prior to auditioning and being accepted into the program. Once you have been accepted into the program, if you wish to apply for financial aid, you will be asked to submit the following materials with your Enrollment Application:
